Presentation :

The Mediterranean Herpetological Congress is an international congress on the subject of herpetofauna of Mediterranean-Type Ecosystems. The congress, as we wish, will meet every four years, in a country of one of the five regions of world Mediterranean-type climates. It will be held for the first time in April 2007 in Marrakech, Morocco. The CMH1 is bilingual (French and English) and includes plenary sessions, oral presentations, poster sessions and / or round tables. It is open to any herpetologist, whether professional or volunteer, interested in Amphibians and Reptiles of the Mediterranean-Type Ecosystems. It is also open to paleontologists interested in paleobiodiversity and evolution of Amphibians and Reptiles and the dynamics of paleo-environments within these ecosystems. It will play a vital role in strengtheninig capacity to study and conserve the herpetofauna of the Mediterranean regions, and will give participants opportunities to share experiences and information, to set up collaborative networks and to review the progress of Herpetology in the Mediterranean environments.

Objectives :

To foster the communication of the last research advances in herpetology and the actions of conservation.

To promote the discussions and to increase the interactions between researchers, managers and conservationists of wild fauna.

To stress the taking into account of the impact of global change, in particular that of the human activities, on the natural populations of Amphibians and reptiles in the Mediterranean-Type Ecosystems.

To promote the conservation of present and past herpetofauna as an integral part of the natural heritage of the Mediterranean-type regions.
