A modest historic overview:

MarrakechThe story of Marrakech city began at the end of the 10th century The origin of name “Marrakech” is controversial between two assumptions. The first says that it is because of insecurity that formerly prevailed in this region. People must pass through quickly (mour Koosh: move quickly). The second hypothesis is more plausible, is of Amazigh langage  origin, which is related to the construction of the city and its walls. The technique used to build at the time, which is also still in use, is to knead the soil mixed with straw, by feet. So to trample on this mixture signifie

in amazigh langage "rekouch”. It Was known at this time that every time you ask people who came from the mountain to the city; where are you going? they replied that they went to "mou rekouch”. In Amazigh "mou" means that or which. Hence "mou rekouch”, meas where we trample the mud for the construction and then Mourekouch. Of course all that assumptions remain to be fully understand by skilful historians.
